"The Next Best Thing to Private Lessons!"
"I am new to music and I have bought 4-5 DVD/CD piano lesson programs, but your books and video lessons are the best I have found out of the many I have tried! The lessons ARE easy for beginners and you explain things just enough - not so much that I'm lost or overwhelmed, but enough so I understand what I am doing and why, and how to do it right."
Cindy Burdue, USA
"I must say that your teaching quality is second to none. It has helped me to progress quickly and efficiently. I would recommend your lessons to anyone who wants to learn. The value of these lessons is so good I would have had to pay much more money to have a teacher over here in the UK!"
Todd Beckett, UK
"When I joined Piano Guide I was worried I might not have enough time to dedicate to lessons. But I am chugging along and enjoying my progress! What surprised me most about the lessons is that although they may seem at first too difficult to master, I definitely improve each time I practice them! I've found that these lessons are the next best thing to having a piano teacher actually sitting with you for your lessons!"
Don Wolan, USA
"Before starting Piano Guide, I was concerned whether I could actually stick to my practice schedule and not slacken off. But I've done remarkably well with that I'm happy to say. I'm pleased with the way you demonstrate fingerings etc. in the videos. Also - you don't pressure me to move on to something more complicated before I'm ready. I have recommended Piano Guide to my friends because I've been learning well, if slowly, and that is exactly what I need.”
Vivien Edwards, Canada
Hi, I'm Peter Hostage, and I have been teaching piano to adults for well over 30 years. Back then (and still to this day), the typical piano method books for adults were really just the publisher’s “kid’s” books dressed up to look more “adult.”
As I’m sure you realize, children and adults learn quite differently and at different paces. For example, in learning music, adults can use advanced concepts about chords and scales to speed up the learning process, where children faced with the same material would easily be confused or overwhelmed.
Because of that, I found that the “adult” books were lacking in vital information and paced too slowly for the typical adult student. Everyday I found myself supplementing the book’s lessons with photocopied sheets, hand written notes and supplemental pieces of music to make the lesson more interesting and fulfilling.
As I did more and more of this, I found my adult students were learning at a faster pace and making better use of their limited practice time. (Most of my adult students felt lucky if they were able to devote an uninterrupted 20 or 30 minutes daily to piano practice.)
But most importantly - they were enjoying their lessons more!
Soon I had quite a stack of folders full of lesson materials, hand written notes and various pieces of music in all levels. Before long, some of my students were suggesting that I organize it all together in a book.
As you can guess, that’s what I did. After much trial and plenty of errors, I published The Piano Guide Book Series, which I believe is the most complete piano method for adults. These books were designed to take you from an absolute beginner to an advanced level at your own pace and on your own schedule.
But that’s not what this is all about!
That is because now I’ve taken it a step further, so that you and other students can enjoy learning how to play piano using this method. It’s a system called Piano Guide.
Piano Guide is a comprehensive system for learning piano, designed especially for adults, that uses video, audio and text for a complete learning experience.
In the videos, you’ll watch me slowly play each lesson for you: left hand, then right hand and then both hands together, so that you’ll see exactly how to play every note! You’ll be looking right over my shoulders.
You’ll also have MP3 audio files so that you can listen to every musical example at the regular tempo. That way you’ll know exactly what it will sound like when you’ve successfully learned the piece. It’s always easier to learn a piece when you know what it’s supposed to sound like!
And most importantly, you’ll have downloadable, printable pdf text files, so that you can print out each lesson and conveniently keep it on your piano or keyboard. That way you won’t have to turn on your computer or other electronic device just to practice piano.
The text is the heart and soul of the Piano Guide lessons. With the written music text, you’ll be learning piano using the same established and proven way of learning that millions of other people have followed over the last few hundred years, but with the added advantage of video and audio files!
Piano Guide is a system of 119 lessons that start at the very beginning. So even if you know nothing about music, you will be playing piano right away! These lessons will take you on an easy-to-follow, step by step journey all the way to an advanced level, a journey on which you can travel at whatever pace that best suits your life.
